Located one block from Murfreesboro’s historic town square, Pinnacle Financial Partners new Murfreesboro headquarters sought to blend Pinnacle’s brand of modern, timeless architecture with the historic context and scale of Murfreesboro. Working with the City of Murfreesboro, as well as local and regional leaders from Pinnacle, Neil led the design team through multiple studies of how best to replace the 1970’s 6-story, brutalist building that previously occupied the corner. The masonry masses of the building change their height to address the mix of scales from the Center for the Arts to the east, the backs of the square buildings to the south, and Pinnacles own 4-story office building to the west, while the masonry material itself ties the overall architecture into the historic brick and wood construction in the area. The wood canopy floating above the mass, simultaneously points back to Pinnacle’s own spike logo and acts as a beacon to patrons coming from the square.
